Telerama Wireless expands to Seattle
Monday, March 29 2004
Puget Sound Business Journal Pennsylvania-based Telerama Wireless Corp., which provides Wi-Fi service to more than 70 coffee-shop locations in Pittsburgh, is expanding its operations to 13 Seattle sites. Telerama, a division of privately held Telerama Internet, charges users 40 cents per minute up to a maximum of $4.95 per day. There's also a cheaper rate for students and a monthly plan. Telerama Wireless pays Wi-Fi "hotspots" 33 percent of all revenues collected from user patrons. Seven outlets of Caffee Ladro in Seattle will offer the service, as well as six other city locations. Telerama Wireless president and founder Doug Luce will move to Seattle from Pittsburgh to oversee Telerama operations here, which will initially employ six people. The company is currently looking for office space, and Telerama says it plans to add more technicians and staff throughout the year. "While I would have preferred to stay in Pittsburgh, the demands of building Telerama Wireless in Seattle require my everyday presence," Luce said in a statement. Company officials said they're targeting neighborhood and campus coffee shops. "We believe that any serious Wi-Fi vendor has to prove their model in Seattle to succeed," they said in a statement. http://seattle.bizjournals.com/seattle/stories/2004/03/29/daily6.html?jst=b_ln_hl
